In The Beginning

They were frustrated. Since the dawn of time, They had fought against each other, all-powerful blow on all-powerful blow, swifter than thought, mightier than the forces of nature. Eons of battle had passed by, as the They strove to defeat their equals, but none had fallen, none had triumphed.

In the beginning, They were alike, in all aspects. They had been siblings in this place, each wanting their place in between the myriads of equals. Only moments after the dawn of time, the first blow landed and strife erupted. Vast magical energies, legions of servant warriors, hordes of unholy terrors, called into being with a mere thought, and dismissed as readily, or left to wreak havoc on their own across the battlefield that was theirs, blood and fire filling the heavens and the hells, countless act of bravery so valiant, untold numbers of heinous deeds so atrocious, and no one took notice.

A voice sounded out, heard by all. "Stop.", it said. Thousand of legions of warriors stopped their battle, blades stuck in foes, myriads of unspeakable terrors cowered before the voice, halfdead corpses in their gaping maws and fists. "This is futile." it said, as the magical energies slowly sizzled into mere shadows, warriors freeing their blades from the fallen, terrors falling back to their nests.

Millenia rolled by as They pondered what their sibling had told them. That it had found a way for them to test their mettle, their beliefs. They pondered, lost in infinite thought, on how they would address the challenge their sibling had laid before them. Silently, They defined their being, their ideals took form, the legions of warriors and hordes of terrors long forgotten, and slowly, one by one, They found their place in things, and They agreed to the Codex.
